Day 1. Barberà de la Conca – Pira – Montblanc

On this first day of the route, how about getting lost in the streets of Barberà de la Conca until you reach the Castell de la Comanda, following in the footsteps of the Templars? In Pira you will discover a historic centre that will transport you to medieval times, and you will marvel at its Modernista winery, the work of Gaudí's pupil Cèsar Martinell. And once in Montblanc, the origin of the legend of Saint George, we suggest a stroll among knights, princesses and dragons along the wall-walk of the ramparts. Oh, and since you are in the capital of the Conca, take the chance to regain your strength by savouring traditional merlets, vanos, carquinyolis, flautins or some typical orelletes!

Day 2. Montblanc – Prades

This second stage is more demanding but also more spectacular for the views you come across. Prades, the end point, known as the red town for the colour of its stone, will win you over with its historic centre and surprise you with the Muntanyes de Prades Interpretation Centre. The town, one of the highest on the Costa Daurada, also offers a wide range of guided tours and an excellent choice of restaurants and bakeries. When you sit down to eat, try dishes made with the prized Prades potato, which has the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) seal.

Elevation: +1,100 m -490 m
Duration (approx.): 7 h 50 min (walking time)

Day 3. Prades – Siurana

The stage from Prades to Siurana is a gift for the senses, and when you reach your destination you realise you are entering a fairy-tale village, with incredible views and legendary stories. We recommend you discover these legends of Siurana with local guides. You will also see that, despite its small size, Siurana promises plenty of fun activities, which you can round off with a great choice of places to eat. By the way, did you know that Siurana has more than 800 climbing routes?

Day 4. Siurana – Cornudella – La Morera de Montsant

The fourth day of the route (or the fifth if you have done the bonus track loop around Prades) is once again a spectacular crossing. Coming down from Siurana, when you reach Cornudella, would you like to join the Modernisme tasting and combine wine and architecture? We recommend it! In Cornudella you should also visit the Modernista winery, the work of Cèsar Martinell, a pupil of Gaudí, and the Parish Church of Santa Maria, a Renaissance work by Pere Blai. There are also so many activities to do around the reservoir! And when you reach your destination, La Morera de Montsant, enjoy the views, the mystique of the village and taste the wines from its wineries!

This stage takes you, at a first stop, to the cradle of the Priorat, Escaladei ("Ladder of God"), where you can combine a visit to the spectacular Charterhouse, at the foot of the mystical Montsant mountain range, to discover the life of the Carthusian monks, with a visit to one of its three renowned wineries. Poboleda, the end point, also has a wide range of guided winery tours and a tasty choice of food that will let you recover your strength. Before leaving, don't miss the church of Sant Pere, which for its size is called the cathedral of the Priorat, and discover the stately ancestral houses of the historic centre, such as Els Frares, home of the Town Hall.

Day 6. Poboleda – Torroja – Porrera

Second-to-last day of the route. The first stretch takes you to Torroja on a crossing among vineyards through the historic Priorat. In Torroja, as you walk along streets paved with pebbles from the River Siurana, we recommend visiting the parish church of Sant Miquel and admiring an 18th-century Baroque organ, considered one of the historic organs of Catalonia. In Porrera, the end of the stage, don't miss the Ca l'Amorós House-Museum, a well-to-do home of more than 200 years ago. And as you stroll through its historic centre you can admire a large number of 19th-century sundials. In Porrera you simply must visit one of the twenty or so wineries and savour an excellent DOQ Priorat at one of its restaurants.

We reach the end of the route. The stage is short and generous in views and landscapes until you reach Falset. Of the capital of the Priorat we highlight two buildings: the Falset Castle Regional Museum and its Modernista wine cathedral, the Cooperative Winery, also the work of Cèsar Martinell. Then take your time exploring its historic centre, La Quartera, a 12th-century square of enormous urban and architectural interest, presided over by the old Palace of the Dukes of Medinaceli (17th century), now home to the Town Hall; and the Jewish Quarter, the setting for dramatised tours. Did you know that in the 14th century 40 per cent of Falset's population was Jewish?
