Roman Theatre
The Roman theatre of Tarraco was built in the time of Emperor Augustus, near the Forum of the Colony and the port area, making use of the slope of the land to house the seating.

More information
It was extended and used until the end of the 2nd century AD, when it ceased to function as a theatre. Although it suffered serious destruction in the 20th century, it preserves remains of the three main parts of the building: the cavea (the seating), the orchestra (the semicircle at the foot of the seating reserved for dignitaries) and the scaena (the stage area). The Theatre is managed by the National Archaeological Museum of Tarragona and is part of the archaeological ensemble of Roman Tarraco, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000.
