Interpretation Centre of the Castles of the Baix Gaià
This castle, now home to the Interpretation Centre of the Castles of the Baix Gaià, was originally a fortified settlement of the 7th-5th centuries BC, and in the 11th century became a Muslim fortress, taking advantage of its proximity to the River Gaià, the natural border between the Catalan counties and the kingdom of al-Andalus.
More information
In the 16th century the castle grew considerably and took the shape we know today: a triangular plan with a moat and walls, two towers on the main façade and an interior arranged around a central courtyard. The Route of the Castles of the Baix Gaià aims to be the starting point of this route, which brings together 8 castles: those of El Catllar, La Nou, Montoliu, Vespella, Montornès, Altafulla, Ferran and Tamarit.
