Route description
This route from Altafulla to Torredembarra is worth doing using the train station stops. If you come from afar, we recommend getting off at Altafulla train station. You can reach the beach over an old stone bridge that leads directly to the beach and the promenade. On the beach, the site of the Roman villa of Els Munts is signposted, and we follow the impressive red-rock cliffs northwards. We keep walking until we reach a small cove, Canyadell beach, and then a cliff called the Roca Bramadora, which leads us to the famous Torredembarra lighthouse, from where you can already see the town's marina. Inside it lies the well-known Roca Foradada, from which hot water gushes and where, years ago, the locals used to bathe. We cross the marina and reach the start of Torredembarra's promenade. Right there, at the roundabout, we find the boat La Guadalupe. The promenade is very wide and full of beach bars for a bite to eat or a good vermouth. Just in front of the promenade is the large Platja de la Paella in Torredembarra, where we can take a dip. And the route has reached its end. From there we will see the signs that lead to Torredembarra's Renfe station, from where we can head home.
Points of interest
Although it is not exactly on the Camí de Ronda itself, one of the places of greatest interest if you plan to spend the day walking from Altafulla to Torredembarra is the Roman villa of Els Munts, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, one of the most important complexes of Roman Hispania in its category. It is a residential complex with rich decorative elements that shows us what the residence of a high official of the Tarraco administration was like. At the end of the route we will find another curious feature: the Guadalupe boat, a restored traditional boat set on a roundabout in Torredembarra that embodies the essence of the town.
It is a good moment for a stroll through the streets and squares of the Vila Closa of Altafulla, the walled historic centre declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest by the Generalitat de Catalunya in 1998.
On this route you can enjoy a unique panorama of the Mediterranean by climbing the last lighthouse built in the 20th century. The Torredembarra Lighthouse has the tallest tower in all of Catalonia. A great way to touch the sky!
And if you want to treat yourself to a gastronomic indulgence, you can do so at the Hotel Gran Claustre, set in the former 18th-century residence of the Teresian nuns, next to the Castle of the Tamarit monarchs. The chef of its restaurant is recognised by the Michelin Guide and, if you try the spa, you will leave renewed.
