Vinícola de Sarral i Secció de Crèdit
Designed by the illustrious architect Pere Domènech i Roura and built in 1914, the winery is the fruit of the local farmers' collective effort to raise a rational building of great architectural value, a pioneer in bringing technical, construction and oenological standards to the agricultural industry.
More information
Although its exterior is a discreet and rather sober building, its interior, which keeps all the original elements in perfect condition, reveals all its splendour, beauty, spaciousness and light.
It consists of a large hall of vats and tanks, divided crosswise by parabolic brick arches resting on round pillars, with a taller central body and lower side aisles in the style of ancient Roman basilicas. Its pressurised water tank, in the manner of a bell tower, is another of its most characteristic features.
Today, although it is still in operation and full of life, the winery is only a small part of the large facilities that Vinícola de Sarral has expanded and modernised in various stages, to become, more than a hundred years after its founding, a benchmark cooperative and one of the most dynamic in the Catalan wine sector.
Don't miss
- Tasting and getting hooked on the area's native variety, Trepat.
- Learning about the link between today's wine-growing activity and Roman culture and traditions (important Roman archaeological remains have been found in Sarral).
- Tasting its naturally fermented semi-sparkling wines (it is one of the few plants in our country that produce this bubbly wine).
- Enjoying the Festa del Vi Novell (New Wine Festival), which combines the presentation of the new products with a good breakfast of blue fish from Tarragona.
- Walking through its different spaces to learn first-hand about the historical evolution and the growth and consolidation of the cooperative until it became a major producer of internationally recognised wines and cavas.
